Free online 3MF to STL converter

Turn a 3MF project from Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, or PrusaSlicer into a clean STL — one file for the whole plate or one STL per object. Runs in your browser, nothing uploaded.

Geometry is copied as is and saved in millimeters. Files in inches or centimeters are converted.

What survives the trip from 3MF to STL

To convert 3MF to STL, drop the .3mf file into the converter above, choose one STL for the whole plate or one STL per object, and download. The conversion keeps the shape and plate position of every object and writes them in millimeters. It leaves out what STL cannot store: painted colors, filament assignments, slicer settings, and modifier parts. Your 3MF file is read in your browser and never uploaded.

One file, or one per object

Merge the whole plate into one STL, or get a ZIP with a separate STL for every object.

Kept vs. dropped

Shapes and positions come through. Project data stays in the 3MF.

Kept
  • object shapes
  • plate positions
  • rotation and scale
  • millimeter units
Dropped
  • painted colors
  • filament assignments
  • slicer settings
  • modifier and negative parts

A local, four-step conversion

Your 3MF is unpacked, read, and written as STL without leaving your browser.

02How it works

How to convert 3MF to STL

Upload a 3MF file

Drop the .3mf you saved from your slicer or downloaded from a model site. No account, no install.

Pick one STL or one per object

Check the objects found on the plate, then choose a single merged STL or a ZIP with a separate STL for each.

Convert and download

Your STL is ready for any slicer. The whole conversion runs locally, so the file never leaves your device.

What changes when a 3MF file becomes an STL

3.1Why convert a 3MF file to STL?3MF is the default project format in Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, and PrusaSlicer, and most models on MakerWorld and Printables download as a 3MF.

3MF is the default project format in Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, and PrusaSlicer, and most models on MakerWorld and Printables download as a 3MF. It is a zipped package that holds the meshes plus the plate layout, units, colors, and print settings. STL holds one thing: a list of triangles. You need that simpler file when a CAD or modeling program, a resin slicer, a print service, or an older workflow only accepts STL, or when you want to edit a single part without the rest of the project. A 3MF to STL converter unpacks the project, reads each object, and writes out plain geometry that every slicer and 3D tool can open.

3.2One STL for the plate, or one STL per object?Choose one STL when you want the whole plate as a single file, for example to print it again in another slicer or to send it to a print service.

Choose one STL when you want the whole plate as a single file, for example to print it again in another slicer or to send it to a print service. Every object stays where it sat on the plate, so the layout is kept. Choose STL per object when you want to edit, scale, or recolor parts separately: you get a ZIP with one STL for each object, named after the object in your slicer. Parts inside one object, such as a body and a lid you split in Bambu Studio, are saved together in that object's STL. Most slicers center a model on import, so the plate position of a single-object STL rarely matters.

3.3What a 3MF to STL conversion leaves behindSTL has no place for anything except triangles, so painted colors, filament and AMS assignments, per-object print settings, supports you painted, and the slicer project itself stay in the original 3MF.

STL has no place for anything except triangles, so painted colors, filament and AMS assignments, per-object print settings, supports you painted, and the slicer project itself stay in the original 3MF. Modifier volumes, negative parts, and support blockers are left out rather than turned into solid geometry, which is what a basic converter would do; a cut-out that depended on a negative part is not applied. Units are handled for you: a 3MF saved in inches, centimeters, or meters is converted, so the STL is always in millimeters, the unit slicers assume. Keep the original 3MF if you may need the colors or settings again.

3.4Bambu Studio, MakerWorld, and .gcode.3mf filesA project 3MF from Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer converts directly, including files with several plates: all objects are read, and STL per object is the easy way to take them apart.

A project 3MF from Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer converts directly, including files with several plates: all objects are read, and STL per object is the easy way to take them apart. A .gcode.3mf is different. It is a sliced print job made for the printer, and it may not contain the model mesh at all. If the converter reports that no mesh was found, download the project 3MF or the STL from the model page instead. You can also export an STL inside Bambu Studio by right-clicking the object and choosing Export as one STL, but this converter works the same on any computer and needs no slicer installed.

3.5After converting: check the mesh before you printConverting 3MF to STL changes the file format, not the mesh.

Converting 3MF to STL changes the file format, not the mesh. If an object had holes, flipped faces, or non-manifold edges in the 3MF, the STL has them too. Your slicer usually tells you when it finds errors. For a single STL, run it through the STL repair tool. If you would rather keep every object separate and in 3MF, use 3MF repair on the original file first, then convert.

This converter

Format change only

  • Geometry copied triangle for triangle
  • Modifier and negative parts left out, not added as solids
  • A broken mesh stays broken after conversion
3MF repair

Mesh cleanup

  • Closes small holes and turns flipped faces
  • Keeps every object separate in a clean 3MF
  • Use it when your slicer reports mesh errors

05FAQ

3MF to STL FAQ

Answers about Bambu Studio files, colors, Macs, file size, and privacy.

How do I convert 3MF to STL?

Drop the .3mf file into the converter at the top of this page, choose One STL or STL per object, click Convert to STL, and download the result. It takes a few seconds and works in any modern browser.

Is this 3MF to STL converter free, and is my file uploaded?

It is free with no sign-up and no limit on the number of files. Your file is not uploaded: unpacking, reading, preview, and STL export all happen in your browser tab.

How do I convert a Bambu Studio 3MF to STL?

Drop the Bambu Studio or MakerWorld 3MF into this converter and download the STL. Inside Bambu Studio you can also right-click an object and choose Export as one STL. If your 3MF has several objects, pick STL per object here to get each one as its own file.

Can I convert 3MF to STL on a Mac?

Yes. The converter runs in Safari, Chrome, or Firefox on macOS, with nothing to install. Microsoft 3D Builder, which many guides mention, is Windows only.

Will my colors survive the conversion from 3MF to STL?

No. STL stores shape only, so painted colors and filament assignments are dropped, and the tool warns you when your file had them. For a multicolor print, keep the 3MF. If each color is its own object, STL per object lets you assign a filament to each file in your slicer.

Can I convert a .gcode.3mf file to STL?

Sometimes. A .gcode.3mf is a sliced print job, and it may not include the model mesh. If no mesh is found, download the project 3MF or the STL from the model page and convert that instead.

Why is my STL the wrong size?

STL files carry no unit, and slicers read them as millimeters. This converter already converts 3MF files saved in inches or centimeters to millimeters. If the size still looks off, the model was probably designed at that scale; scale it in your slicer.

What is the difference between 3MF and STL?

3MF is a zipped project that stores meshes with units, colors, materials, several objects, and print settings. STL is a plain list of triangles with no unit, color, or settings. 3MF is better for working in a slicer; STL is the file almost every 3D tool can open.

What is the maximum file size?

Files up to 100MB work. Very dense projects with millions of triangles can take several seconds to read, depending on your computer.

My STL converted, but the slicer reports errors. What now?

The conversion copies the mesh as it is, so errors in the 3MF come through. Fix the STL with the STL repair tool, or repair the original with 3MF repair and convert again.
